Beyoncé Channels Pamela Anderson and Calls for Votes in ‘Bodyguard’ Video

In what appears to be the first official video released from her months-old “Cowboy Carter” album, Beyonce hilariously channels Pamela Anderson’s “Baywatch” look in a new clip for the song “Bodyguard” – retitled “Beywatch,” of course “.

The video, released early Tuesday, is unusually auspicious for the singer and shows her in various situations, mostly in a red Anderson-style swimsuit. In addition to Anderson’s “Baywatch” look, Beyoncé also impersonates “Barb Wire” in a black dress and high boots, as well as the actor’s outfit at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. She is seen on a motorcycle, passing through a photo studio and something, which looks like a parking lot, struts and, strangely, lights a cigarette, half of which she burns.

It’s an unusual Election Day message in that it’s more reminiscent of Halloween – at one point the message reads “Happy Beylloween” – and only refers to the election, as the singer pulls out a prop gun that holds a flag that says ” Vote” releases.

The MTV Music segment, intentionally grainy to resemble an old video, includes a chyron that reads “No Visual Awards,” apparently a reference to complaints that there are no official videos for their two-part album cycle “Renaissance “were published. Of these, “Cowboy Carter” was the second release. However, in late 2023, the singer released a feature-length documentary about her “Renaissance” stadium tour that year, which raged across North America and Europe over the summer.

Regardless, the timing of the new video is strange, as it appears to have a Halloween theme but arrived five full days after October 31 and hours before the polls opened for a far more serious event, the presidential election in a deeply divided race — especially considering Beyonce strongly endorsed Kamala Harris for president late last month with a unifying speech at a rally in the singer’s hometown of Houston. Perhaps the video is intended to provide comic relief for a population plagued by anxiety.
