WASHINGTON (KGO) — Vice President Kamala Harris will watch the results on election night at her alma mater Howard University in Washington, DC

The historically black college is home to a number of famous alumni, and excitement is growing on campus about the potential of one of its most famous alumni to become the next President of the United States.

Bay Area Howard University students tell ABC7 News Anchor Julian Glover they are excited, optimistic and proud.

Leading up to the election, there were major concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’ ability to win over the Gen Z electorate, but at her alma mater, it’s Team Harris-Walz.

“To see a girl — a woman from Oakland, California — have a chance to be president is just incredible. Honestly, I think anything is possible,” said Brandon Horton, a Howard University student from Vallejo.

Horton is involved in the “Cali Club” – Howard students from the Golden State.

Kimiah Jacobs, born and raised in Richmond, is also involved with the club. She and Horton took the floor to come out and vote.

Vice President Harris graduated from the School of Arts and Sciences at Howard University in 1986. If she is successful, it will be the backdrop for a possible victory speech.

Dr. Marilyn Sephocle taught Harris in her second year of teaching in 1985.

“There are no words for it – I’m very excited. In my opinion, she deserves the presidency. And even as a student, she was a good student, a great student – ​​a brilliant student,” Sephocle said.

Jacob Monroe is a sophomore at Howard. At just 19 years old, this is the first election in which he is eligible to vote.

His father has known Harris since she was a teenager, and she is an inspiration to Monroe.

“I remember the first speech I attended was her attorney general’s inaugural speech and during that speech she looked at me and my brother and told us that we were the future of America and ever since that memory has stayed with me and “I’ve kind of carried it with me my whole life,” Monroe said.

Regardless of the results, these Howard Bison couldn’t be prouder of their most famous graduate.
