Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE: Bomb threat disrupts voting in swing states

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE Updates: With the 2024 presidential election underway, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are locked in a tight race that could go down to the wire. Harris entered the race in July as the Democratic nominee after President Joe Biden stepped down, creating the potential for her to become the first woman to hold the office. Trump, despite surviving two assassination attempts and becoming the first former president to be convicted of a felony earlier this year, is determined to reclaim the White House as the Republican nominee.

The first results are coming in for the US presidential election with Republican leader Donald Trump projected to notch up wins in Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Florida, Arkansas and Vice President Kamala Harris set to emerge victorious in Vermont, Delaware and New Jersey.

As per latest trends, Harris is winning 27 electoral college votes and Trump 105. 270 electoral college votes are required to win the race. Trump is also projected to win Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee while Harris is racing to emerge victorious in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

Exit Polls reveal a nearly even split between the two candidates, especially in the seven battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — that could ultimately decide the outcome. These swing states, with a mix of closely divided voters, are receiving the most campaign attention and funding, as each candidate works to sway undecided voters on issues like the economy, which has emerged as a primary concern.

Final election results may not be projected immediately on Election Day, as swing states require time to count all votes. In 2020, for instance, it took four days to project a winner after Pennsylvania’s results were confirmed. However, early projections and key swing state results will likely give a strong indication of the outcome soon after votes begin to be counted.

All eyes are now on these battleground states as both Harris and Trump prepare for a high-stakes finish in a race that could shift the nation’s political landscape.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE:  Bomb threats disrupts voting

Bomb threats in areas of Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania were ultimately deemed hoaxes, yet they led to evacuations and caused some polling locations to extend their hours. These threats surfaced throughout the day at polling sites across three metro Atlanta counties, all heavily populated with Democratic voters.

In Pennsylvania, threats continued into the evening, targeting polling stations and election offices where ballots were being counted. Additionally, three voting sites in Navajo County, Arizona, also reported bomb threats, according to the secretary of state’s office..

Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro said in an evening news conference that the hoaxes posed no danger to the public – or to the election. “Every legal, eligible vote will be counted and counted accurately, and the will of the people in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania will be respected,” said Shapiro, a Democrat.

Neither Shapiro nor Pennsylvania State Police gave details about who might be behind the hoaxes or why Shapiro believed there was no threat to the public.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE: Trump’s share of Black vote up at 12%, from 5% in 2020, says exit poll

The Trump campaign put a great deal of effort into persuading Black and Latino voters to defect from the Democratic Party – and there were some early indications those efforts were paying off.

That was most notable in the battleground state of North Carolina, where exit polls showed Trump boosting his share of the Black vote to 12%, from 5% in 2020. He garnered the support of 20% of Black male voters, the poll said.

But a potential problem for Trump in the state was that his support among white voters was five percentage points less than in exit polls four years ago.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE:  Florida abortion rights ballot measure falls short of 60% requirement

Florida voters Tuesday rejected creating a constitutional right to abortion, a political win for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that will keep in place the state’s ban on most abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy.

It’s the first ballot measure victory for abortion opponents in any state since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, a decision that ended the nationwide right to abortion and opened the door to bans in most GOP-controlled states, protections in Democrat-dominated ones and new political and legal battles across the country.

The Florida measure failed to clear the required 60% voter approval threshold to pass constitutional amendments in Florida. Most states require a simple majority.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the national anti-abortion group SBA Pro-Life America, said in a statement that the result is “a momentous victory for life in Florida and for our entire country,” praising DeSantis for leading the charge against the measure.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE:  Wall Street rallies on Election Day

U.S. stocks rallied Tuesday as voters headed to the polls on the last day of the presidential election and as more data piled up showing the economy remains solid.

The S&P 500 rose 1.2% to pull closer to its record set last month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 427 points, or 1%, while the Nasdaq composite gained 1.4%.

The market’s main event was the election, even if the result may not be known for days or weeks as officials count all the votes. Such uncertainty could upset markets, along with an upcoming meeting by the Federal Reserve on interest rates later this week. The widespread expectation is for it to cut its main interest rate for a second straight time.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE: Hoax bomb threats linked to Russia target polling places

The FBI reported that on Tuesday, hoax bomb threats—many seemingly originating from Russian email domains—targeted polling locations in four key battleground states: Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin, as Election Day voting took place.

“None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far,” the FBI said in a statement, adding that election integrity was among the bureau’s highest priorities.

Two polling sites in Fulton County, Georgia, were temporarily evacuated following hoax bomb threats. Both locations reopened after about 30 minutes, with officials stating that the county is pursuing a court order to extend voting hours beyond the statewide 7 p.m. deadline.

Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, attributed the Election Day bomb threats to Russian interference.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Election results 2024 LIVE: The winner of a North Carolina toss-up race could help decide who controls the US House

A pathway for Republicans to keep the U.S. House or for Democrats to take control of it may partially hinge on who is victorious in North Carolina’s only toss-up congressional district.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Don Davis, who is in his first term, and GOP opponent Laurie Buckhout are engaged in a fierce battle to win North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, one of the few competitive districts across the Southeast. The race has attracted millions of dollars from both parties to either flip or maintain the district, which spans from Currituck County to a small portion of Granville County in the state’s northeast.

The district’s political landscape is a bit different for Davis compared to when he defeated Republican opponent Sandy Smith in 2022. Last year, the GOP-controlled state legislature added a handful of conservative-leaning counties to the district, making it less blue than it once was.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: North Carolina Gov says surge in women voters boosts Harris’s chances

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, predicted there would be no delay in the state’s results.

“I think we’ll get them pretty early. But the thing is, this is gonna be a razor’s edge race. It always is in North Carolina,” he said on MSNBC. “Donald Trump or JD Vance has been here almost every day, it seems, over the last couple of weeks, because they’re worried.”

Early vote returns were high, Cooper said, adding that people were also turning out today.

“There’s a lot of excitement here in North Carolina, because we know that we can turn the tide of this race,” he said.

Something that has stood out to him is that among early voters, 55.5% of the electorate were women, he said.

“That’s a record,” he said. And he believes a greater number of women had voted, signaling the state’s suburban vote was up significantly.

He added: “We have a lot more college educated people. Our newer, larger counties are even larger. So we feel very positive that North Carolina can hold a key here. When you think about the fact that Hurricane Helene has hit during this last month.”

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: How many electoral votes does N Carolina have?

North Carolina has a unique position in U.S. presidential elections, having gained statehood in 1789. With 16 electoral votes, it plays a significant role in determining the outcome of national elections.

Historically, North Carolina has leaned Republican, with the party winning the state in every presidential election since 2012.

However, the state has also demonstrated a competitive spirit, having been carried by Democrats only twice since 1968—once in 1976 and again in 2008 when voters supported Barack Obama.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: Nevada voting history

Historically, Nevada was dominated by the Republican Party from the late 1960s until the late 1980s.

However, the influx of new residents has shifted the political landscape, making it increasingly competitive.

The state’s voting patterns are indicative of this change; in the 2016 presidential election, Democrat Hillary Clinton narrowly defeated Republican Donald Trump, garnering 48% of the vote compared to Trump’s 46%. This outcome marked a significant moment, as it was only the second time since 1912 that Nevadans supported a candidate who ultimately lost the presidency, the first being in 1976.

In the subsequent 2020 election, Joe Biden further solidified Nevada’s status as a battleground state by winning approximately 50% of the vote against Trump, who received about 47.5%.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: Arizona Secretary of State debunks fabricated video on election fraud claims

Today, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a joint statement alerting the public to heightened foreign influence operations aimed at undermining the integrity of the upcoming U.S. elections. According to the Intelligence Community (IC), foreign adversaries, particularly Russia, are actively engaged in efforts to sow distrust and create divisions among American voters.

The IC has observed that these influence activities are expected to escalate as election day approaches and into the following weeks, with a particular focus on swing states. Russia has been identified as the most active threat, with influence actors linked to the country reportedly manufacturing videos and disseminating false articles designed to undermine election legitimacy and instill fear among voters. These operations may also incite violence, potentially targeting election officials.

Recent assessments indicate that Russian actors have amplified disinformation, including a false article alleging that U.S. officials are planning election fraud tactics such as ballot stuffing and cyberattacks in swing states. In Arizona, a fabricated video falsely claimed that election fraud was occurring through the creation of fake overseas ballots and manipulation of voter rolls. The Arizona Secretary of State has already denounced these claims as false.

“Russian influence actors also manufactured and amplified a recent video that falsely depicted an interview with an individual claiming election fraud in Arizona, which involved creating fake overseas ballots and changing voter rolls to favor Vice President Kamala Harris. The Arizona Secretary of State has already refuted the video’s claim as false,” said joint statement issued by ODNI, FBI, and CISA.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: FBI warns of misinformation targeting election integrity

The FBI has alerted the public to two instances where its name and insignia have been misappropriated to spread false narratives regarding the upcoming election. These misleading videos, which claim to convey critical information, have been flagged as fabrications aimed at inciting confusion among voters.

The first instance involves a fake news clip that falsely claims to be a terrorist warning issued by the FBI. This video inaccurately states that the agency has advised Americans to “vote remotely” due to heightened terror threats at polling stations. The FBI has confirmed that this clip is not genuine and does not reflect the agency’s actual assessments or the safety of polling locations.

The second fabricated video presents a bogus FBI press release alleging that the management of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona conspired to rig inmate voting and colluded with a political party. Like the first, this video has been debunked and contains no truthful information.

The FBI emphasized that election integrity is a top priority and that the agency is collaborating closely with state and local law enforcement to address election-related threats and safeguard communities as Americans exercise their right to vote. These attempts to mislead the public undermine the democratic process and erode trust in the electoral system, officials warned.

In light of these developments, the FBI encourages citizens to seek information about elections and voting from credible sources, such as local election offices. Those who suspect criminal activity related to the election are urged to report their concerns to local authorities or contact the FBI directly at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: High voter turnout in hurricane-affected counties in N Carolina

“We feel like, knock on wood, we’re in very good shape,” Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Bell spoke at a press conference roughly five hours after polls opened this morning in North Carolina.

“At this time, we have not heard reports of any major incidents at any polling places. We also have not heard reports of long lines today,” Bell said. “It is a good day to go vote.”

Even in the 25 counties affected by Hurricane Helene have been able to vote throughout the early voting period and on Election Day — in fact, voters in those counties have turned out at about 59 percent so far, which is higher than the state average, Bell said.

With no anticipated problems at polling locations, the 2,600 precincts are expected to close on schedule at 7:30 PM. Bell anticipates that the majority of unofficial results will be available between 9 PM and 11 PM. (Politico)

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: Official urges patience as Arizona processes results with new voting laws

Key points from the press conference held by Arizona’s Secretary of State, Adrian Fontes:

Fontes stated that everything is running as smoothly as possible in Arizona.

There were minor issues reported, including a brief power outage in one county and a polling site opening late due to an employee forgetting keys.

The office received eight calls regarding individuals electioneering within 75 feet of polling places.

Fontes confirmed that party observers must be credentialed and mentioned that the Department of Justice sent federal monitors to four counties.

The two-page ballot and a new law requiring the counting of mail ballot envelopes will lead to longer result processing times.

Fontes urged voters to be patient as election officials work through the results.

Addressing concerns about a Russian-manufactured video, Fontes labeled it an attempt to undermine trust in the electoral process.

Nevada, North Carolina, Arizona US Polls LIVE: Arizona ballot could change abortion law

In Arizona, voters have the chance to reverse bans enacted by state legislatures following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022, which eliminated the federal right to an abortion.

Abortion rights advocates in this critical battleground state are pushing for a measure that would establish the right to abortion until fetal viability—approximately 24 weeks—in the state constitution.

Currently, Arizona restricts abortions after 15 weeks.
