Rachel Sachs, a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis and an expert in drug law, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 29 about lowering the cost of prescription drugs.

“This committee has the ability to promote access to affordable prescription medications
by creating strong generic and biosimilar competition that benefits not only patients but also our public payers,” Sachs testified.

“In considering potential reform options, this committee should consider reforms that will not only help promote FDA approval of competitive generics and biosimilars, but also ensure access to these lower-cost products through insurance coverage, physician prescription, and pharmacy substitution.”

The hearing, held in Chicago, was chaired by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
