Main street closed after fatal crash in northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – A major road in northeast Charlotte is closed after a pedestrian was struck and killed near a busy intersection Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on University City Boulevard near North Tryon Street

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the entrance lanes of University City Boulevard between North Tryon Street and Shopping Center Drive are closed due to the accident. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

The NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT) expects the road to remain closed until approximately 8:15 a.m

The paramedic confirmed that the person killed was a pedestrian.
