2 children found in apartment during drug raid; 2 arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The Department of Children and Family Services had to be notified after two children were found alone in an apartment while officers were executing a search warrant during a drug raid, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Accused Baton Rouge fentanyl dealer Jarvis Pearson, 30, was arrested. A second person, Jonathan Hogan 42, was also taken into custody.

According to EBRSO, members of the EBRSO Gang Intelligence and Enforcement Unit investigated Pearson in October and November 2024.

Agents reportedly monitored Pearson’s home for hours. Officers said they witnessed numerous personal drug transactions between Pearson and people who arrived at his apartment.

A search warrant was obtained for Pearson’s residence in the 2300 block of Balis Drive, officials confirmed. It was also discovered that Pearson had an active warrant for his arrest on drug charges.

On November 5, EBRSO agents conducted a traffic stop on Pearson and arrested him on his warrant.

That same day, the sheriff’s office conducted a drug check on a man who had met with Pearson at the apartment. The driver who met with Pearson, identified as Jonathan Hogan, was found with approximately an ounce of cocaine, an AR handgun and a large amount of cash in the vehicle.

Officers then executed the search warrant on Balis Drive. The following arrests and seizures are a result of the traffic stop and search warrant:

Pearson was convicted on May 3, 2012, of possession of marijuana (first offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia; on August 19, 2019 for possession with intent to distribute cocaine (5 years supervised probation/3 years credit for time served) and illegal carrying of weapons with CDS (6 months probation/3 years credit for time served/probation). ends on February 17, 2021).

During the interview with Pearson, authorities said he admitted that the cocaine and fentanyl located in the apartment belonged to him. It should be noted that during the search two minor children were found in the apartment alone. According to law enforcement, the narcotics found were easily accessible to the children. DCFS has been notified.
