The death toll in Helene, North Carolina rises to 102

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed another death related to Hurricane Helene.

As of November 6, 102 North Carolinians had died as a result of the storm, which hit the Carolinas on September 27.

The most deaths have come from Buncombe County, with 43 so far. The leading cause of death attributed to the storm was drowning.

More than a million homes and businesses were without power and hundreds of roads in western North Carolina were closed during the peak of the storm.

Since then, teams have been working to reopen much of the region to families and tourists.
