Leon County Sheriff’s deputies investigate homicide; one was arrested

A man was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing another man Tuesday morning in west Tallahassee – the second shooting in 24 hours.

Arthur Campbell, 22, was arrested on murder charges and is being held at the Leon County Detention Center, according to a social media update from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting in the 300 block of Lipona Road. When they arrived, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” LCSO said. “The two men knew each other and had reportedly had previous arguments.”

The incident led to nearby SAIL High School being placed on lockdown, Leon County Schools spokesman Chris Petley said.

Court records or other details about the shooting were not available as of Wednesday afternoon.

This is the second serious shooting in the capital and county that occurred on Tuesday. Later that night, Tallahassee police responded to a shooting at the ReNew Tallahassee Apartments on West Tharpe Street, where officers found one man injured.

The two incidents mark the 55th and 56th serious shootings this year. According to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence, 22 people have been killed and 44 people injured so far in 2024.
