Man falls to his death in Cleveland high-rise used as a polling station

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A 52-year-old man died at a polling place on Election Day, according to the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority.

CHMA officials say the man fell to his death in the Union Square High Rise on East 98th Street.

It happened around 6:15 p.m. while polling stations remained open, although the CHMA says voting was not disrupted.

“The unfortunate incident occurred at the rear of the building, away from the main entrance,” CMHA wrote in a statement.

According to the housing authority, witnesses reported that Jermaine Kidd of Cleveland was trying to climb over the railing of an upstairs balcony when he fell.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kidd’s death remains under investigation by the CHMA.
