Big Ten

(At) No. 17 Indiana 80, SIU Edwardsville 61: Mackenzie Mgbako scored 19 of his career-high 31 points in the first half and Malik Reneau added 15 points and seven rebounds to lead the Hoosiers in the opener. Mgbako made 8 of his first 10 shots and finished 13 of 17 from the field while going 4 of 5 on 3-pointers, making his only free throw attempt and grabbing nine rebounds.

(At) No. 25 Rutgers 75, Wagner 52: Freshman standout Dylan Harper scored 20 points in his highly anticipated debut. Harper, a combo guard, is considered one of the best freshmen in the country and, along with fellow freshman forward Ace Bailey, is one of the main reasons the Scarlet Knights have entered the season. He is the younger brother of Ron Harper Jr., who also played at Rutgers and whose father, Ron Harper Sr., was a 15-year NBA veteran. Rutgers was without Bailey, who was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury he suffered in practice on Monday. His status is commonplace.

(At) Minnesota 80, Oral Roberts 57: Dawson Garcia scored 30 points to lead the Gophers in the opener. A three-point play from Josh Jones got the Golden Eagles within single digits for the first time since the start of the first half (38-29), but Garcia and Parker Fox each scored five points to help the Gophers push their lead to 50 -33 to expand. There are 13 1/2 minutes left. Fox scored 13 points and Lu’cye Patterson added 10 for Minnesota. It was Garcia’s fourth career game with more than 30 points.
