Ja Morant is out with a hamstring injury after the Grizzlies suffered a scary fall

Ja Morant had to leave Wednesday’s win against the Lakers early due to a hamstring injury, although the issue didn’t appear to be too concerning.

The Grizzlies missed an alley-oop as he tried to dunk after a lob pass, but he ended up well above the rim.

However, he missed the ball and fell heavily to the ground.

Los Angeles picked up the loose ball and play quickly moved to the other side of the field.

Ja Morant was knocked down on the drive to the basket.

Morant was slow to get up, limping off the ground before heading down the tunnel.

The Grizzlies initially said Morant’s return was in doubt due to the hamstring issue, but the Memphis star never returned to the game.

Morant told reporters “I’m fine” when asked about the injury after the game, but also added, “You’ll find out when Grizz PR puts out the tweet,” according to Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian.

Morant had 20 points with five assists and four rebounds in the win.

It’s unclear whether he will play in Friday’s game when the Grizzlies play the Wizards.

Morant had made his presence felt in the game when he went up against NBA superstar LeBron James and even picked up a technical foul after Morant appeared to intentionally push James after a big basket.

James expressed his delight at seeing Morant back on the pitch after playing just nine games in the 2023/24 season due to a 25-game suspension and a season-ending injury.

“It’s definitely great to have him back out there,” James told reporters.

“Two guys from downtown who love to compete,” he added of the back and forth with Morant. “We all grew up playing on the asphalt, playing outside and competing at a high level without cameras around. It was just a bunch of shit, talk, go out and play the game. That’s what the core of the game is about.”
