Notre Dame vs. Florida State: Where to watch on NBC, Peacock

When the Florida State Seminoles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish met in 1993 in a legendary contest between the two top teams, all eyes were on the greatest drama ever seen in college football. But when the struggling Seminoles visit South Bend this Saturday, the fabled matchup will continue to be broadcast NBC and Peacock will be revived under very different circumstances.

The 1993 Seminoles-Irish contest, billed at the time as the “Game of the Century,” had sky-high stakes: It was a rare chance to meet the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the regular season, with the top teams competed against each other. Florida State faced a Lou Holtz-coached Irish team that ultimately turned the tables and defeated FSU coaching icon Bobby Bowden in a thrilling 31-24 victory.

What to expect from Florida State vs. Notre Dame

Unlike that instant classic game from 1993, the atmosphere surrounding this year’s Florida State-Notre Dame contest feels more like the passing of two giant college football ships than a head-on collision of equally powerful programs.

Despite going 13-1 last year and suffering a heartbreaking near-miss in the College Football Playoff, this year’s injury-plagued Florida State team looked like a shrunken shell of its typical winning personality. Head coach Mike Norvell’s Seminoles enter Saturday’s Notre Dame game with a record of 1-8. Their only win came in September with a narrow 14-9 victory over the California Golden Bears.

Notre Dame, meanwhile, enters this weekend’s matchup well-positioned to defend its early spot in this year’s field of contenders in the newly expanded College Football Playoff. The 10th-ranked Fighting Irish are looking to build on their 7-1 record, with head coach Marcus Freeman leading a nice rebound from the Irish’s only loss of the season – a shocking 16-14 debacle against Northern Illinois in September.
