Zach LaVine injury status and update ahead of Bulls vs. Dallas Mavericks

Before a loss to the Brooklyn Nets and a particularly painful loss to the NBA’s worst team, the Utah Jazz, the Chicago Bulls had a record above .500 for the first time in two years.

A large part of this early season “success” is due to Zach LaVine being healthy and back in shape.

The two-time All-Star played in just 25 games last season after foot surgery, but is Chicago’s leading scorer with 22.7 points per game in the 2024-25 season. He is shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from three on eight attempts per game.

Other players, most notably Coby White and Nikola Vucevic, have carried the scoring burden at times, but LaVine remains the Bulls’ most-played player and preeminent offensive option.

If Chicago hopes to get back on the winning list, it will have to face last year’s Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks. Will LaVine be available?

At the time of the announcement, LaVine is still listed as questionable on the Bulls’ injury report after suffering a hamstring injury in the loss to Brooklyn and then missing the loss to the Jazz.

Two of Chicago’s other starters – Josh Giddey and Patrick Williams – are also on the injury report but are expected to play. The same goes for backup center Jalen Smith.

Lonzo Ball is out with a right wrist injury.

However, the Mavericks are battling their own ailments, so the Bulls won’t travel to Dallas with one of the league’s best teams at full strength.

The full injury report for today’s game is as follows:

Chicago Bulls:

Missing: Lonzo Ball (wrist)

Questionable: Zach LaVine (hamstring)

Likely: Patrick Williams (shoulder); Jalen Smith (knee); Josh Giddey (illness)

Dallas Mavericks:

Missing: Maxi Glue (thigh); PJ Washington (knee sprain); Dante Exum (right wrist surgery)

Questionable: Dereck Lively II (shoulder)
