An Illinois woman buys a $1 million lottery ticket while grocery shopping

A trip to the grocery store netted one lucky Illinois woman $1 million after she bought a winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket.

The woman purchased the winning ticket for the Oct. 20 evening drawing at Jewel-Osco at 153 Schiller St. in Elmhurst.

She matched all five numbers to win the $1 million jackpot. The winning numbers were 2-3-24-25-28.

“On the way to see my aunt, I made a quick stop at Jewel to pick up some groceries and before heading out the door I quickly grabbed a Lucky Day Lotto ticket,” the lucky winner told lottery officials. “I actually put the ticket in my purse and forgot all about it.”

A few days later, when she scanned the lottery ticket on her phone, she got the surprise of her life.

“I immediately saw “$1,000,000” on the screen and was completely shocked. I scanned the ticket again to double check and when it said “$1,000,000” again, I immediately started crying. I thought, ‘This is incredible.’”

The winner said she wanted to use some of the money to visit her favorite place in the world, Ireland.

The woman became the ninth player to win $1 million or more on the Lucky Day Lotto game this year.
