A party led by Naftali Bennett could influence elections, poll finds – Israel News

If elections were held today, a party led by former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett would finish second among Knesset candidates, according to a Channel 12 poll on Wednesday.

The poll sought to assess the political situation following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant earlier this week.

Under the current party structure, Netanyahu-led Likud Party would remain the leading party with 25 seats. Benny Gantz’s National Unity Party would come in second with 20 seats, followed by Yesh Atid, led by Yair Lapid, with 15 seats. Avigdor Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu would give up 13 seats, and the new left-wing party The Democrats, led by Yair Golan, would gain 11 seats.

According to the survey, Shas would get ten mandates under the leadership of Arye Deri. United Torah Judaism under Yitzhak Gold Knopf and Otzma Yehudit, led by Itamar Ben-Gvir, would both win eight seats. Hadash-Ta’al under Ayman Odeh and Ra’am under Mansour Abbas would each get five seats.

Additionally, the poll showed that the opposition bloc, including Hadash-Ta’al, would gain 69 seats while the coalition would win 51 seats.

Resistance to Gallant’s dismissal

55% of respondents opposed Gallant’s firing, 58% of whom were supporters of the Netanyahu bloc.

About 17% of respondents said they supported appointing Israel Katz as defense secretary, and about 56% said Gallant should stay in his job.
