Beaufort Co. officials locate 40 escaped primates

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Yemassee Police are working with Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center staff to locate 40 escaped primates.

Beaufort County deputies confirmed in a post to X that the primates escaped from the research center on Castle Hall Road in Yemassee on Wednesday evening. They also sought the public’s help.

Traps were set up in the area and Yemassee police were on scene using thermal imaging cameras to locate the animals.

Residents are advised to secure all doors and windows to prevent primates from entering homes.

If someone finds one of the escaped primates, authorities recommend not interacting with it and instead calling 911 immediately.
