EXCLUSIVE: Lucasfilm has signed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy star Wars Films. Kinberg will write the trio and produce it alongside Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy.

I heard this will cover episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga It started with George Lucas’s first film in 1977, along with Steven Spielberg’s Jaw has reimagined the global blockbuster game. Insiders disputed my information that Kinberg will continue this story, saying that this would instead start a new saga and stand next to it star Wars percolating projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover. As usual, Lucasfilm and Disney are not commenting.

Kinberg previously worked with Lucasfilm to create the Emmy-nominated animated series alongside Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck Star Wars Rebels which ran for four seasons from 2014 to 2018. He also worked as a consultant Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakensthe JJ Abrams-directed film that revived the franchise in 2015.

He has also been heavily involved in other franchises as a writer and/or producer. This includes a decade spent on it X Men Films and that Logan Spin-off film starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Mangold. He was also a producer on the first two Dead Pool Films and executive producer of the 2024 blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine; He produced the Ridley Scott-directed film The Martian‘ and has written scripts for films such as Mr and Mrs Smith and was co-author of the film that gave the starting signal Sherlock Holmes Franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. He also produced the Kenneth Branagh and Agatha Christie film trilogy that began with Murder on the Orient Express. In short, he feels comfortable in the franchise space.

Kinberg will soon be producing Paramount’s remake of Stephen King’s The running man which has just gone into production. Edgar Wright directs Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Emilia Jones, William H. Macy and Lee Pace. He is also attached to produce by Paramount Star Trek Film directed by Toby Haynes and written by Seth Grahame-Smith.
