Biden delivers remarks after Trump’s victory over Harris

President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Thursday in his first on-camera appearance following Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris.

“In a democracy, the will of the people always takes precedence,” he said right at the beginning.

Biden said he spoke with Trump and assured him that he would direct his administration to ensure a “peaceful and orderly transition” because that is what the people deserve. Biden subtly nodded to how Trump refused to accept that he lost the election in 2020. Trump was re-elected this week.

The president reiterated that the US electoral system “is honest, fair and transparent.” And you can trust it, win or lose.”

He concluded by saying that defeat does not mean you are defeated.

“America endures,” he said. “We’ll be fine, but we have to stay committed.”
