Australia scored 163 in 35 overs after Pakistan quick Haris Rauf thrashed the hosts at the Adelaide Oval on Friday afternoon.

Rauf took 5-29 from eight overs, the second five-wicket haul of his ODI career, accounting for the dismissals of Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins at a damaging spell.

After Pakistan captain Muhammad Rizwan won the toss and elected to bowl first, Australia got off to a promising start with 2-79 in the 14th over.

But Rauf turned the game on its head by ripping the heart out of the Australian middle order and collapsing miserably at 6:51.

Steve Smith top scored for the Australians with 35 points, while none of his teammates scored more than 20 points. A couple of late dropped catches from Pakistan helped Australia avoid their lowest ODI total at the Adelaide Oval.

Earlier, Pakistan seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi nullified both of Australia’s openers in the powerplay, defeating Jake Fraser-McGurk LBW for 13 and Matt Short, caught at point, for 19.

Rizwan swallowed six catches as Australia’s batters struggled to tame Pakistan’s pace bowlers on the green deck.

Pakistan are chasing a 164-run target for victory.
