Watch David Gilmour present “Dark and Velvet Nights” in “Fallon.”

David Gilmour came by The Tonight Show to perform his latest song “Dark and Velvet Nights.” The musician was accompanied by house band The Roots and four backup singers for the dynamic performance.

“Dark and Velvet Nights” is from the Pink Floyd member’s new LP. Lucky and strangewhich fell in September. The album is Gilmour’s first new solo album in nearly a decade, following 2015 Rattle the lock. The title track features keyboards by Richard Wright of Pink Floyd and was recorded at Gilmour’s home in 2007.

Gilmour sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to discuss the album and the rumors surrounding it The dark side of the moon was written to sync with the film The Wizard of Oz. Fallon asked Gilmour if he was affected by the many five-star reviews the album is receiving, to which the musician admitted that he “of course” cares about the response to his work.

“You can’t help but take a look,” he said. “And angry at those who gave you three [stars] and said something stupid in them.” Of the LP, he added: “For me, this is something very special.”

Fallon later asked Gilmour about several rumors, including that the musician was once a model. Gilmour confirmed that the modeling career was true, noting, “It was a way to build up my resources to buy a new guitar or something that I actually needed.”

As for them The Wizard of Oz Gilmour had no connection to Pink Floyd’s groundbreaking album and dismissed the rumor. “I didn’t hear about it until years later,” he told Fallon. He said he tried to sync the vinyl LP with the film, even though it is now available online. “There are these strange coincidences,” Gilmour said. “I call them coincidences.”

Gilmour is currently on tour in support of Luck and Strange. Two more nights of appearances are scheduled this weekend at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
