Russian attacks across Ukraine kill 1 overnight, officials say

Russia fired a barrage of drones and missiles into Ukraine overnight, killing one civilian and wounding more than 30 people in the center, south and northeast, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces fired 92 drones and five missiles at 12 Ukrainian regions.

Sixty-two drones and four missiles were shot down, it said, and 26 drones were “lost,” most likely indicating they were electronically thwarted.

The Interior Ministry said one person was killed in the Odessa region, where civilian infrastructure and houses were damaged and nine people were injured.

Four people were injured in a drone attack in the Kiev region, at least six private houses and several cars were damaged, it said.

Russia also bombed the northeastern city of Kharkiv with targeted bombs, wounding at least 25 people, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said.

President Volodymyr Zelensky once again appealed to Kiev’s partners to help strengthen air defense.

“Air defense, long-range capabilities, weapons packages, sanctions against the attacker – this is the answer we need, not only in words but also in actions,” he said on the messaging app Telegram.

Russia has stepped up its airstrikes on Ukrainian cities and towns, deploying swarms of drones almost every night.

Ukrainian officials say Russia is trying to expand Ukraine’s air defenses and demoralize civilians as the war nears the 1,000-day mark and Moscow’s troops advance in the east.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia fired more than 2,000 attack drones at civilian and military targets in October.
