1 dead, 3 injured after three-car crash on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – One person is dead and two are injured in a multi-car crash in Columbia Thursday morning.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the accident occurred on Garners Ferry Road, approximately four miles south of the city of Columbia.

A 1994 Chevy S10 pickup was traveling east on Garners Ferry Road when it slowed and made a U-turn, according to police. A 2001 Ford Taurus, also traveling east, struck the truck in the rear, pushing it into the westbound lane.

After the car was forced into the westbound lane, it was struck by a westbound 2021 Chevy Silverado.

According to SCHP, the driver of the Chevy pickup was the only person in the car and died at the scene. The driver of the Ford Taurus was taken to Prisma Health Richland for his injuries. There were two people in the Chevy Silverado who were also taken to Prisma Health Richland for their injuries.

SCHP continues to investigate the incident.
