Coffee crisis as Starbucks app goes down for Americans commuting to work

Starbucks’ mobile app was shut down for Americans heading to work on Friday, less than a day after its new holiday menu was dropped.

Downdetector, which tracks app and website outages, reported that more than 2,500 customers had complained about problems with the app since about 7 a.m. ET.

The outage has spread across the United States, affecting customers in major cities such as New York, Dallas, Washington, DC and Boston.

The first problems began on Thursday when Starbucks released its holiday menu, which included fan favorites like Gingerbread Oat Milk Chai and Peppermint Mocha.

Although the company said it had fixed the app’s outage, customers were outraged when they still couldn’t access it a day later.

“Could you please get it together?” one person wrote on X.

“Day number two of this nonsense, having to wait in line like a farmer to order my coffee because your app is broken.”

Starbucks customers complain about not being able to order through the mobile app

The Starbucks app doesn’t allow customers to view the new holiday menu or choose a location to order from, leaving many wondering how they’ll get their caffeine fix when they’re pressed for time.

“I can’t choose a store to order from because the menu isn’t there,” an angry Starbucks customer complained on DownDetector.

“I want to see what new holiday drinks are available but can’t because I can’t choose a location,” another customer wrote.

As a customer turns up

Starbucks added to its customer service account: “We continue to welcome and serve customers at our drive-thru and in-store.”

However, customers argued that they didn’t have time to go in and order and expressed disappointment that they couldn’t get their much-awaited holiday drink.

“Is the Starbucks app seriously down again?” One person wrote on X, adding: “I can’t stand another disappointment this week.”

Another person frantically said that they just wanted to order their holiday drink, while another commented: “The Starbucks app is not available and I just wanted a cold peppermint drink.”

Starbucks has not confirmed what caused the outage or when operations will return to normal.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Starbucks for comment.

The company introduces its new holiday menu every November and this year introduced three new products, including the Cran-Merry Orange Refresher and the Cran-Merry Drink.

The company also announced that it is reducing the additional price of milk alternatives, leading to an increase in the number of customers wanting to try the holiday drinks without paying an additional fee.
