The drought is getting worse, the risk of forest fires is high and it will rain on Sunday night

Fires could easily spread today with little relief from dry conditions caused by rain on Sunday night.

There is one FIRE WEATHER WARNING (Red Flag Warning) Due to low humidity, gusty weather conditions and a dry environment conducive to the spread of wildfires, this applies to the entire state of New Jersey today. This lasts all day today.

FORECAST:

Fire weather continues today due to dry conditions, very low humidity, 30 mph gusts, mild temperatures and sunshine. This will encourage the spread of forest fires to this day.

Conditions will continue tomorrow although the wind will not be as breezy. Temperatures will be mild today with highs around 72 degrees. Saturday’s high will be cooler, around 58 degrees. Sunday will start out briefly sunny before clouds form. Cloudy skies will develop over New Jersey as the sun sets, and rain will begin at or shortly after 5 p.m

Rain showers will continue until Monday, 6 a.m. This will mean 0.25 to 0.75 inches of precipitation, which will be the first measurable rain in over 40 days.

Parts of central and southern New Jersey are experiencing extreme drought, according to Thursday’s updated drought monitor.

The temperatures will be more autumnal until next week, but it may rain on Thursday.
