The 12 best movies and series to watch on Netflix this weekend: November 8, 2024

After a long election week, give yourself a break this weekend. Monday marks Veterans Day, the federal holiday honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, and a special stream will provide a great tribute to their service.

You can reflect on the meaning of the holiday by going back to its origins with two films about World War I, or by checking out some more recent stories about veterans’ experiences after returning home from deployment. And if you prefer a less direct approach to the subject than real military stories, you can show your support by watching films in other genres made by actors and filmmakers who are veterans themselves.

But first: What’s new on Netflix?

The start of the holiday season. Rusty Cundieff’s festive new romantic comedy Meet me next Christmas In the lead role, Christina Milian plays a woman on a mission to go to the Pentatonix Christmas Eve concert who finds romantic harmony along the way. Still too early for you? Capture the last remnants of summer with Season 4, Part 2 of Outer Banksin which the Pogues’ latest adventure comes to a dramatic conclusion. Is everything a bit too down-to-earth? The new documentaries Investigation Alien sees reporter George Knapp searching for new evidence of UFOs.

If you only have one night…

Go back to the beginning. Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th to commemorate the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I, and you can dedicate an evening to this episode of world history with a double feature of acclaimed films that dramatize it.
