Auburn men’s basketball plane was diverted mid-flight due to a fight on board

The Auburn Tigers men’s basketball team is headed to Houston before their game against No. 4 Cougars suffered a self-inflicted delay on Saturday night.

FOX 6’s Jonathan Hardison reported Friday that a flight that appeared to be the Tigers men’s basketball team’s flight was flying back to Auburn on Friday afternoon. Audio recordings obtained by air traffic control reportedly mentioned that there was “a brawl between basketball players” during the flight before the plane changed course.

Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman also reported that the flight was about 45 minutes into Houston when some “nonsense” broke out between players that could have escalated into a fight.

Auburn is expected to board another flight Friday evening and arrive in time to prepare for Saturday’s game against Houston at Toyota Center.

Auburn, in its 11th season under coach Bruce Pearl, is 1-0 after kicking off the 2024-25 season with a 94-43 win over Vermont on Wednesday night.
