The Sixers are looking to put their four-game losing streak against the Los Angeles Lakers behind them

The Philadelphia 76ers lost to the LA Clippers on Wednesday night and now turn their attention to the Los Angeles Lakers in hopes of securing their second win of the season. This game is the second of three games in which Joel Embiid will serve his suspension. With Tyrese Maxey also dealing with hamstring tightness and set to miss time, the Sixers could be without two-thirds of their Big 3 in this matchup.

So far, the Sixers have been drastically underwhelmed – even by their standards without Embiid. The offense has often been stagnant and the rotation is a work in progress, with some players seeing drastic fluctuations in minutes. Assuming Maxey isn’t ready to start, guys like Kyle Lowry, Jared McCain and even Reggie Jackson will have to step in.

Outside of guard play, this will likely be another game where they rely heavily on Andre Drummond and Guerschon Yabusele. Anthony Davis was unable to play in the Lakers’ final game due to an ankle injury, but if he does (considered likely), Drummond will have a long playing time ahead of him. If Davis doesn’t play, the Sixers could go back to Yabusele, who played a season-low 10 minutes in the last game against the Clippers. Aside from Davis, the Lakers don’t have much depth upfront, with players like Rui Hachimura and Jaxson Hayes being their only options.

On the other side of the court, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a solid performance under their new head coach JJ Redick. They have a top-10 offense so far this season, although their defense has lagged, ranking just 28th in the league. In comparison, the Sixers rank 26th in offensive rating and 22nd in defense. Not ideal!

This game, much like the Clippers’ game, has the potential to steer the team in the right direction. They still have two games without Embiid against the Lakers and Charlotte Hornets. Both could be winnable if Paul George gets into form, although facing Davis and LeBron James will be daunting. Two wins would bring their season record to 3-6, a deficit early in the season but not deep.
