More than 1,300 flights were canceled and delayed at DIA Airport as heavy snow pelted the Denver metro area

At least 486 flights were canceled and 890 were delayed at Denver International Airport on Friday as heavy snow pelted metro Denver and Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

The Federal Aviation Administration has activated a traffic management program for flights to DIA “due to weather/snow ice.” The average delay for flights under that plan was one hour and 50 minutes, FAA officials said, adding that departure plans could also be affected by weather.

According to Flight Aware, there were a total of 1,376 delayed and canceled flights at DIA as of 9 p.m. SkyWest reported the most cancellations with 269, followed by Southwest with 127 and Frontier with 66.

On Thursday, 1,068 flights were delayed or canceled at DIA Airport, data from Flight Aware shows.

“Airport operations are running smoothly,” said DIA spokesman Michael Konopasek. “The airport’s customer service staff have not received any calls to assist travelers affected by travel disruptions. Travelers are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.”
