Two Salisbury residents die in a car accident on Route 50

According to Maryland State Police, two Salisbury residents have died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Dorchester County.

Maryland State Police are investigating the double-fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening in Dorchester County.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on November 3, Maryland State Police Easton Barrack troopers responded to the area of ​​eastbound Route 50 near Austin Road for a report of a single-vehicle accident. According to initial investigations, a Subaru traveling east left the road for unknown reasons, crashed into a utility pole and then caught fire.

The driver, identified as Shankar Mondal, 54, of Salisbury, Maryland, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Quail Dasgupta, 37, also of Salisbury, Maryland, was transported by ambulance to Maryland Shore Regional Health in Cambridge, where she was later pronounced dead. A 1-year-old girl was flown by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command to Johns Hopkins Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore for treatment of her injuries.

Route 50 eastbound was closed for more than two hours due to the crash investigation. Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration employees assisted with the road closure.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. The accident investigation remains active and continuing.
