Real Madrid suffers a triple injury blow in their win against Osasuna

Éder Militão, Rodrygo and Lucas Vázquez were all substituted in Real Madrid’s 4-0 LaLiga win over Osasuna on Saturday, adding to the club’s extensive injury list.

Vinícius Júnior scored a hat-trick for Madrid and Jude Bellingham scored his first goal of the season, but the victory was marred by the triple injuries to Militão, Rodrygo and Vázquez.

“It was a good game, we controlled it well from the start,” said coach Carlo Ancelotti in his post-match press conference. “The team looked good from the moment we opened the score. The shame is the injuries in the first half. We’re evaluating them now and we’ll see.”

“Three injuries in the first half is pretty strange. The calendar is demanding and doesn’t give the players any rest. They go into the games tired, so the risk of injury is higher.”

Striker Rodrygo – who had just returned to the team after recovering from a thigh injury – was taken off the field in the 20th minute at the Bernabéu and replaced by Brahim Díaz.

Central defender Militão required treatment ten minutes later before being carried off the pitch. The young player Raul Asencio was used in his place.

At half-time, full-back Vázquez was withdrawn and replaced by Luka Modric.

Madrid are missing in defense, Dani Carvajal is out for the season due to a serious injury and David Alaba has not yet fully recovered from his cruciate ligament tear.

They will also be without goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has a thigh injury, and midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, who sometimes fills in at defense and is suffering from a sprained ankle.

“We have to thank the academy for the work they have done [Asencio]” said Ancelotti. “He is a player we need at this time… Raul has done well.” [reserve team] Castilla and now he will be with us.

Ancelotti would not say whether the string of injuries increases the likelihood of new signings in January.

“We will evaluate it in the coming months,” he said. “We can’t do anything at the moment. We will assess what we can do in January.”

“I don’t want to talk about it because it hurts me to see my teammates crying,” Diaz said after the game when asked about the club’s injury problems.

“It breaks my heart. I’ve come back from a long injury and now it’s their turn. It seems like they might take longer than usual…It breaks my heart.”

Madrid came into the game against Osasuna under pressure after suffering two defeats in their previous two home games against Barcelona and AC Milan.

They now have a two-week break before returning to action against Leganés on November 24th and traveling to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Champions League on November 27th.

Saturday’s win puts Madrid six points behind LaLiga leaders Barcelona, who play on Sunday.
