Haynes King injury update: Georgia Tech makes decision on starting QB vs. Miami

Haynes King will be available Georgia TechWeek 12’s game against No. 4 Miamisaid ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

His final injury report came after pregame warmups. He was previously considered a game-winning player after missing the last two games with an upper-body injury.

“I was told just a few minutes ago in the locker room that the decision had been made that Haynes King, who injured his shoulder two games ago, would start this game,” ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden reported at kickoff. “He warmed up before the game, then went back to the locker room, talked to the coaches and told the coaching staff he was ready to go.

“This injured shoulder is the same one he suffered while playing at Texas A&M. He can’t hurt himself again running the football or taking a hit because he’s afraid he’ll look the same when he runs the ball and throws the ball.”

Thamel had already reported on Saturday morning that he expects rookie Aaron Philo to get the starting role against the Hurricanes on Saturday if King is unable to finish the game.

This is good news for the Yellow Jackets, however, as Georgia Tech started the season 5-2 under King’s leadership. Before being sidelined by injury, he completed 71.2 percent of his passes for 1,568 yards and eight touchdowns with just one interception this season. King also runs well, with 353 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

They have lost both matches since King was sidelined and are in danger of falling to .500 if they can’t upset Miami on Saturday. It’s going into the last two games of the season NC State And Georgia – Georgia Tech must win at least one of these games to qualify for the bowl, which makes the outcome of the Week 11 game even more important.

Of course, if they can beat the Canes in Week 11, there is no doubt that the Yellow Jackets will take the win. Still, this appears to be Georgia Tech’s toughest matchup of the regular season schedule, and the Hurricanes have everything to lose against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

Heading into the matchup, Georgia Tech is a 10-point underdog while the over/under sits at 63.5 points. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
