This huge Week 11 showdown between Georgia and Ole Miss has been circled as a potentially pivotal point for both teams since the schedule was released. Well, the duel is finally here and there may be even more at stake than originally expected as the no. 16 Rebels (7-2, 3-2 SEC) on Saturday the No. 16 Rebels (7-2, 3-2 SEC) on Saturday. 3 Bulldogs (7-1, 5-1) received.

Georgia is the current betting favorite to win the SEC with odds of +150 on FanDuel. However, it has already suffered one loss, and another would put its conference title ambitions on life support before another big showdown with No. 7 Tennessee next week. Ole Miss, which entered the season with its highest preseason ranking since Archie Manning’s time at quarterback, must win to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Rebels enter this week with a +1700 bet to win the conference.

The last time Georgia played at Ole Miss, the Rebels handed Kirby Smart the first loss of his head coaching career with a 45-14 win over the Bulldogs in 2016. It remains the worst loss for Georgia in nine seasons under Smart. But when the programs met in Georgia last season, it was the Bulldogs who got the last laugh with a dominant 52-17 win.

The non-competitive nature of this loss should provide an added dose of motivation for Ole Miss and coach Lane Kiffin as these two Alabama alums face off in one of the most important matchups of the weekend.

Georgia vs. Ole Miss: What you need to know

Beck’s mistake: After throwing just six interceptions in 14 games during the breakout 2023 season, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is dealing with a case of the yips. The fifth-year signal caller has thrown 11 interceptions in 2024, all of which came in the last five games. He has thrown three interceptions on three occasions, including in a loss at Alabama. Georgia coach Kirby Smart has given no indication that he is considering exploring another option at quarterback. But Beck needs to improve if the Bulldogs want to win their third national championship in four seasons.

Darts dimes: Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart appears to be finding a groove at just the right time. After a productive start to the season against overwhelmed non-conference opponents, Dart was unconvincing in the Rebels’ 1-2 start against SEC opponents. But in wins over Oklahoma and Arkansas in the last two weeks, the senior was on target. He threw for a school record 515 yards in last week’s 63-31 win at Arkansas. Dart’s six touchdown throws brought his season total to 21, leading the SEC. Most impressively, his great game ended with the loss of star receiver Tre Harris to injury. Instead, Dart faced Jordan Watkins, who set school records for yards (254) and touchdowns (5).

Defensive development: One difference between this year’s Ole Miss team and the team that beat Georgia 52-17 last season is the physicality of the defense. With major transfer additions Walter Nolen (Texas A&M) and Princely Umanmielen (Florida) along the defensive line and linebacker Chris Paul Jr. (Arkansas) at linebacker, the Rebels have strengthened their game defensively.

“Lane has done an incredible job of bringing in talented players, big and physical,” Smart said. “The improvement in their defense is extremely noticeable. These guys are disruptive, powerful, fast, tons of sacks and tons of tackles for losses.”

Georgia vs Ole Miss Prediction, Tips

Ole Miss rediscovered its offensive form last week with a 63-31 win at Arkansas. Now the Rebels welcome a Georgian team that oscillates between dominant and vulnerable. If UGA quarterback Carson Beck doesn’t recover from his recent panic, the Bulldogs will be in serious trouble. Even with Beck curbing its recent turnover woes, Ole Miss is better equipped defensively this season to shut down Georgia’s running game. Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart has a bevy of playmakers and the confidence to challenge the Georgia defense. Look for Ole Miss to find a path in a game that could define coach Lane Kiffin’s tenure with the program. Pick: Ole Miss +2.5
