Trump says Haley and Pompeo will not be part of the second administration

President-elect Donald Trump made clear that former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not be part of his administration after securing a return to the White House earlier this week.

Trump announced the decision in a Truth Social post Saturday evening.

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join the Trump administration, which is currently being formed. I have greatly enjoyed and valued working with them so far and would like to thank them for their service to our country. Make America Great Again!” he said.

Haley, who served as ambassador to the United Nations for a year under Trump, ran against him in the Republican presidential primary this election cycle and ultimately dropped out shortly after Super Tuesday in March of this year. In particular, she withheld her endorsement until the Republican National Convention this summer.

Pompeo, who served as CIA director and also secretary of state during Trump’s first term, was tapped to be his second-term defense secretary.

Since Trump won the election on Tuesday against Vice President Kamala Harris, he has begun announcing who will hold various Cabinet positions, including campaign manager Susie Wiles as his chief of staff.
