Community members band together to hold a bake sale to benefit veterans after a viral video

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (WSFA) – A bake sale in Prattville that went viral on TikTok has turned into a drive to support veterans in Alabama.

12-year-old Kamden Thornton was helping his older sister by running a bake sale for her business when U.S. Airman Mikey Lane spotted him. Lane said he remembers no one coming over for the bake sale as a kid, so he wanted to make Kamden happy.

“As soon as we got there, I saw Kamden’s face, and he just had such a sweet face, and I thought, OK, this is going to be such a healing moment, so I thought, let me get my phone out and record it,” Dani Lane said , Mikey Lane’s wife.

She uploaded the video to TikTok, not knowing what response she would get.

“It was just crazy to see how many people commented, ‘This restored my faith in humanity,'” she said.

The video now has over 14 million views on TikTok.

The overwhelming support motivated them to join Thornton and his sister in hosting another bake sale, this time to benefit veterans, a group close to both families’ hearts.

“I feel like sometimes they forget how much they mean to us, and so I felt like it was just God’s timing because it was perfect,” said Jaztin Thornton, Kamden’s sister.

The families worked together Positive environment, dedicated recovery supportalso known as PEERS, an organization that provides housing and support to veterans. 100% of the proceeds benefit the non-profit organization.

“I like to help, that’s my personality trait,” said Kamden Thornton. “It just feels great to help people in ministry.”

They raised around $1,700 for PEERS from their Prattville bake sale alone.
