One person is dead and another is in custody after a crash in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A crash on County Highway A in Monroe County left one person dead Thursday morning.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck another vehicle.

63-year-old David Wilcox of Tomah was driving the vehicle that was struck. He died at the scene. A Wilcox passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital.

Prior to the crash, law enforcement was attempting to locate the vehicle that had strayed into the other lane. It was reported to be driving erratically after encountering a sign in the city of Sparta. Kristoffer Cattle, 39, of Tomah was driving this vehicle. Cattle was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail.

The sheriff’s office is recommending charges against Cattle including murder by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, reckless homicide and driving after suspension causing death.

Rinder will be in court on Monday.
