Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers: Second half open thread

There was a lot of coverage on TV about LSU’s home field advantage and the way it was played Cool The stadium in Baton Rouge is at night. And when Alabama had a false start in the first game, you would have thought the Tide wouldn’t have a chance in an extremely hostile environment.

However, there was a TD on the first drive and the crowd quieted down a bit. Add in two more touchdowns at Alabama, a sack fumble by LSU and just two field goals by the Tigers, and Death Valley is dead silent.

Alabama’s offense went into overdrive in 2008, relying on the running game, RB corner routes, screens and QB runs in the rain to keep the ball moving. Jalen Milroe looked much quicker and more decisive than he has in weeks, so the bye week seems to have done him a lot of good. Similarly, RB Justice Haynes really showed old-school power a few times to convert 1st downs and score a touchdown that he couldn’t get right.

Alabama was also inches away from scoring two deep shot touchdowns to Ryan Williams and Emmanuel Henderson. Both receivers had a kick on the defender and were just able to fend off the TD.

Defensively, the Tide was outstanding. LSU had a good running game, but the Alabama defense fought back afterward and held them to a FG. Otherwise, Nussemeier played a few nice passes, but not much came of them.

The real question will be whether the Tide can continue their overall dominance in the 2nd half. They weren’t able to do that against Georgia, so now is the coaching staff’s chance to show that they’ve grown since then in terms of adapting to their opponent’s adjustments.

Roll Tide!
