Panthers-Giants predictions, odds, injuries, what to watch out for in the Munich game

It’s game day in Munich, Germany, where the Carolina Panthers will take on the New York Giants in just a few hours.

Let’s look at everything you need to know about this match, starting with the latest odds.

As of this writing, the Giants still hold a 6.5-point advantage on DraftKings Sportsbook, as they have all week. However, why the line is so strongly on their side is controversial. Like the New Orleans Saints last week, these Giants are reeling after losing four straight games after a 2-3 start to the season. That puts them at 2-7, tied with the Panthers and several other teams for the league’s worst record heading into Week 10. Meanwhile, Carolina is coming off an emotional home win, ending a five-game losing streak.

Jadeveon Clowney is listed as questionable on the injury report but participated fully in Friday’s practice and is expected to play. Carolina may also bring DJ Wonnum into the line-up for the first time this year, as he has been removed from the PUP list. However, left tackle Ikem Ekwonu and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen were ruled out. In their place, Brady Christensen will start and rookie Xavier Legette should take over the role of the team’s WR1. Rookie running back Jonathon Brooks is also listed as questionable – if he plays, it would be his first NFL appearance.

The G-Men are a little weak at wide receiver this week with Darius Slayton out with a concussion and Bryce Ford-Wheaton also out with a Achilles tendon injury. Former Panthers kicker Graham Gano is questionable but is expected to return after being on injured reserve since September. Superstar defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was limited at practice on Thursday and Friday, but it appears to be just a case of stress management. He has no status and will line up opposite Carolina’s interior.

This matchup will be the biggest on display in the game – Lawrence, in particular, faces Cade Mays, Robert Hunt and Damin Lewis – but more broadly it’s about the Giants’ pass rush against Carolina’s offensive line. This is an unstoppable force against an immovable object. New York leads the NFL with 35 sacks entering this week, but the Panthers are one of the best pass protection teams in the league. If they can consistently beat Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and former Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns, another upset is certainly possible.

In fact, it’s exactly what we expect. The Giants don’t do many things well on the field, and if you can neutralize that pass rush, they’re pretty toothless without rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers, who has an exciting matchup with Jaycee Horn. We expect Chuba Hubbard to have another strong game there, and if Bryce Young can get off to another good start, they could even win by more than a point. Panthers 27, Giants 20.
