It’s three weeks before Thanksgiving and it feels like spring. What’s up?

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — While Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia don’t typically fall into the seasonal pattern of leaves turning bright red, golden yellow and bright orange, at least we should Feeling more like autumn. But when it comes to temperature, we are yet to experience November normals.

Summer transitioned into fall on September 22nd, but temperatures appear to be lagging behind.

Since Sept. 22, Jacksonville International Airport has recorded five days with a reading at/above 90, with the normal average being 78.8 in September and 71.2 in October.

So far in November, no day has had a high below 80 degrees, and on Tuesday, November 5th we recorded a monthly high of 86 degrees. That’s a temperature over 10 degrees above average. Last November there was only a single 86 degree day on November 10th.

So when can we expect fall temperatures?

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, fall temperatures return to predicted temperatures the week before Thanksgiving.

While it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact day and time when we’ll be able to comfortably wear jeans and boots, long-range forecasts for Thanksgiving show partly cloudy skies with highs in the 70s, which is still 10 degrees above average normal for November 28th. For reference, in 2023 the peak was 59 on November 28th.

If the long-term forecast holds true, we will see highs in the upper 60s before Thanksgiving, but only for a few days before the mid-70s return.
