Newark police are searching for a suspect connected to a shooting incident that erupted in a city neighborhood Saturday night. Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of ​​16th Avenue and South 6th Street around 9:25 p.mUpon arrival, officers found several bullet casings, but after a thorough search of the neighborhood, no injuries were reported.

The scene was secured and the Newark Shooting Response Team was notified to assist in the investigation.

Investigators are working to determine whether this incident may be related to a fatal shooting that occurred minutes earlier, just a few blocks away near West Side Park.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
