Bears and Patriots Preview: How Similar Are These Two Franchises?

In her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll spoke with Christian Arcand, who covers the Boston and New England sports scene for WEEI. They discuss the similarities between the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots quarterback situations over the past few years, where each team currently stands with their respective coaching staffs, and preview this weekend’s game.

Christian says New England’s offense won’t do anything if the Bears can contain rookie quarterback Drake Maye and prevent him from getting out there and running.

“The Patriots can’t run at all,” Arcand said on the show. “They had very bad running blocks up front. [Starting RB Rhamondre] Stevenson didn’t really make much of an impact. They had a few touchdowns last game but averaged 1.6 yards per carry. It was brutal. It’s brutal watching this team try to pass the ball.”

“In fact, Drake Maye is their only running attack. I mean, he’s really all they have. You just have someone spying on the quarterback and you stay ahead. If you don’t allow that, the offense doesn’t really have much to offer.”
