Pittsburgh Steelers release former first-round pick

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they have released safety Terrell Edmunds and running back Jonathan Ward prior to the team’s Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders.

Edmunds did not practice leading up to the Steelers’ Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders due to an illness.

Pittsburgh signed the 27-year-old from the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad on September 10th. Edmunds appeared in parts of five games for the Steelers this season from Weeks 4 through 8, recording a total of 145 snaps and seven combined tackles.

He began his career in the Steel City when he was selected No. 28 overall out of Virginia Tech in the 2018 NFL Draft. Edmunds started 75 contests with Pittsburgh from 2018 to 2022, totaling 410 tackles and five interceptions.

He agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the 2023 season, but only played seven games for the team before being traded to the Tennessee Titans as part of a package for fellow safety Kevin Byard.

Edmunds finished the year in Tennessee by appearing in nine contests before signing with the Jaguars last offseason.

Ward, who also spent time with the Titans last season, signed a contract with the Steelers back in May. He was released during recent roster cuts before joining the practice squad days later. The 27-year-old played 69 snaps for Pittsburgh this year, most of them on special teams.
