Jeff Ulbrich says the Jets aren’t ready to play

During the Jets’ Thursday night win over the Texans in Week 9, Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit repeatedly mentioned quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ efforts to convince them that the Jets could get hot and make the playoffs.

Today they were freezing.

After a 31-6 loss to the Cardinals, Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said of his team: “They weren’t ready to play . . . and that falls on my shoulders.”

They had every reason to be prepared. They had three extra days to prepare. And they know that with every loss, their tolerance for error becomes smaller and smaller.

Meanwhile, Ulbrich finds it easy to take the blame. What will owner Woody Johnson do, fire him?

Maybe he will. The dysfunction began when Johnson fired Robert Saleh after just five games when the team was 2-3. They are now 3-7.

Are they ready? No. But they probably need to go 6-1 in their last seven games to make it. The question is whether Rodgers can convince himself or anyone else that it’s possible.
