Motorcyclist dies in crash in Union County

UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Union County Saturday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a Ford Edge was stopped in the northbound lane of Maynardville Highway waiting to turn left onto Old Highway 33 around 4:45 p.m. Saturday.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle attempted to swerve to the left side of the Ford while it was stopped, but crashed into the left rear of the car. The motorcycle then slid onto its side and struck the guardrail on the right side of the road before coming to rest on the southbound side of Maynardville Highway.

The driver of the motorcycle, 64-year-old Steven Miracle, was killed in the crash, THP said.

Neither the driver nor a passenger in the Ford were injured.

No further information was released.
