Travis County is collecting 305 pounds of prescription medications on Drug Take Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day was held on Saturday, October 26th this year. At this year’s event, Travis County collected 305 pounds of expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications.

These efforts to safely dispose of unwanted medications are designed to prevent medication abuse and reduce the risk of opioid addiction.

Each year, Travis County law enforcement officers partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to celebrate National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

For anyone who missed the recent Drug Take Back Day event, 11,000 authorized collectors are available throughout the United States year-round to collect and dispose of unwanted prescription medications. This includes the five Travis County Constable Precincts.

The district offices are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and collection boxes are available in their foyers.

For more information, visit the DEA year-round collection site locator or the Travis County Prescription Drug Take-Back website.
