Ryan Fitzpatrick made a joke at his own expense after Jared Goff’s fifth pick

Football on Sunday evenings Two of the league’s greatest gunslingers were represented in Detroit Lions veteran Jared Goff and Houston Texans star CJ Stroud. The passing game of both teams did not quite live up to expectations.

Goff in particular had a disastrous night, throwing five interceptions before the fourth quarter even began. The Lions quarterback entered the game with just four picks this season, a tally he surpassed by three quarters Sunday night.

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick couldn’t help but crack a joke about the situation, getting in his own way. After Goff threw his fourth interception of the night, Fitzpatrick pointed to one of the most erratic passing performances of his own playing career.

“We’re entering the dangerous territory where my name appears on the show with the stat ‘Last time someone threw this many picks’… Time to put the kids to bed,” Fitzpatrick joked on X.

Shortly after, Goff threw his fifth interception of the night, which led to another funny post from Fitzpatrick asking the Lions’ quarterback not to throw another pick.

Fitzpatrick was referring to a game in 2016, when he was a member of the New York Jets, in which he threw six interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs. It was the most interceptions thrown by a quarterback in a game since Peyton Manning threw six for the Indianapolis Colts against the San Diego Chargers in 2007.

Goff is dangerously close to joining the ranks of Manning and Fitzpatrick, although he is still a long way from the all-time record of eight interceptions in a single game set by Jim Hardy in 1950.
