Three dead in Turkish drone attack on PKK members in northern Iraq

Three members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were killed in a Turkish drone strike in northern Iraq late Saturday, Iraqi Kurdistan’s counterterrorism service said on Sunday.

The Turkish attack targeted a vehicle in a mountainous area near Iraq’s northern Dohuk province, killing three people, including one person identified as a “senior PKK official” in the Iraqi Kurdistan Counter-Terror Service statement, the statement continues.

Turkey regularly carries out airstrikes against PKK militants in northern Iraq and has dozens of outposts on Iraqi territory.

The PKK launched an uprising against Ankara in 1984 with the initial goal of creating an independent Kurdish state. She then moderated her goals to seeking greater Kurdish rights and limited autonomy in southeastern Turkey.
