Anthony Davis of the Lakers left with an eye injury against the Raptors

Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis left Sunday’s 123-103 win over the Toronto Raptors with a left eye injury late in the third quarter and did not return to the game.

Davis suffered a left corneal abrasion in the same eye twice last season.

“All I know is he got stung in it,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said of Davis’ eye. “He had trouble seeing. Obviously, if you have a minor injury to your eye, it will take a while to regain your clear vision. But other than that, no update.”

As Davis turned to block Jakob Poeltl’s dunk attempt, Poeltl’s left hand hit Davis in the face while Davis blocked the shot with his left hand. Davis immediately fell and grabbed his face, writhing in pain on the floor for a few minutes before a group of Lakers employees helped him to the locker room.

Davis finished the game with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks in 26 minutes. With Sunday’s win, the Lakers improved to 6-4.

Last season, Davis left two games early due to a left corneal abrasion – March 16 against the Golden State Warriors and April 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. After consulting with ophthalmologists, Davis decided not to wear the safety glasses he had used in his youth basketball career.

Davis entered Sunday averaging 32.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.0 blocks in 36.3 minutes per game.

The Lakers have two days off before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday at Crypto.com Arena.
