This Friday: The Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul Fight – What will we experience?

It has garnered a lot of press since its shocking announcement. The fight left people angry that it shouldn’t happen. The fight was postponed, and many people stated that at the time of cancellation, this would be the perfect opportunity to call off the fight for good.

But now it’s here. It happens. This Friday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. We are of course talking about Mike Tyson Vs. Jake Paul. The fight is scheduled for eight, two-minute rounds in which the two fighters wear no headgear. The fight will see both men don 14-ounce gloves. There are as many cynics as critics who say the fight is simply too dangerous considering Tyson’s age of 58. The cynics take a different approach and say the fight is “already in the script” or in similar words.

So the question is: What on earth are we going to witness on Friday evening?

If this is indeed an “arranged” fight, we might all feel let down as the fight might go the distance (and what’s the price of a draw here?). But if the fight is actually legitimate, with no predetermined moves or outcomes, and if both men are trying to get the knockout in a very real, toxic attempt to win, then we could see something that either Tyson fans are happy about Home sends or pumped up or in a state of depression, remaining very deflated.

If the fight is on a level playing field and not just a staged money-maker for both men, and if both fighters let their hands go with “bad intentions,” as top Tyson would say, then who wins? Tyson appeared fast and explosive in some of the footage we saw of him in training, at least for a while. At other times, Tyson appeared unbalanced (which was due to a knee brace he was wearing in this particular clip of the training footage) and stiff.

Paul? Can he even fight, some of the harsher critics have asked. Paul certainly has youth on his side, and against a man about to turn 60, youth might be enough.

Paul is furious at suggestions that Friday’s fight will be a fake fight or a boring fight (or both), and wrote the following on social media:

“Someone’s going to get fucking knocked out. The end.”

Perhaps.

Tyson has stated that his goal is to “hurt this young man.”

Perhaps.

But will this fight and its outcome ultimately harm the sport? Many of us tuning in may be watching the fight with our hands over our eyes. Because if Tyson, once a truly great, destructive fighter, gets crushed, that’s bad enough. If Tyson gets seriously injured, it might be a disaster.

The dice have really been rolled on this fight. And it’s not just the two fighters who are taking risks.

Tyson has a record of 50-6(44) and will make his first sanctioned fight since 2005. Paul, 27, currently has a record of 10-1(7) and he has said numerous times that this fight is a dream come true for him.

We’ll see it soon.
