Al-Nasr coalition raises alarm about “leak wars” threatening Iraq’s political process

The Shafaq News/Al-Nasr coalition led by Haider al-Abadi revealed on Monday the objectives behind the publication of certain audio leaks involving some politicians and government officials.

Coalition spokesman Aqeel al-Rudaini told Shafaq News: “What is happening now is actually a war.” [a war of leaks] targeted targeting of specific political and government figures. This issue is currently being pushed by internal parties aiming for a political overthrow in the run-up to the upcoming elections. It is also used as a tool of political blackmail in various areas, including securing certain benefits.”

Al-Rudaini assumed that “this war of leaks involves external interference from certain intelligence agencies and other sources. There may be leaks supported by external agendas that will be exploited in the coming phase.” These could be more dangerous than the current leaks and could be used against the government and political process in Iraq, particularly given the significant and dangerous vulnerability of the Iraqi regime Iraq for infiltration, he explained.

Social media platforms and applications have circulated audio recordings of politicians disclosing confidential information and internal disputes within political factions over private interests.
