Delta Air Lines plans to increase frequency on three non-hub routes next year

Delta Air Lines plans to increase frequencies on at least three routes early next year that do not involve any of its nine hubs. However, one of the routes originates in a focal city – where it has a larger presence compared to other non-hub destinations in its network.




It comes as the old carrier is plans to increase capacity to the state of Alaska next summer. Delta will also launch a new route between its Detroit hub and the Bay Area.


From two to three and from three to four

According to independent aviation blog Ishrion Aviation, Delta plans to increase frequency between Raleigh and Orlando, San Diego and Las Vegas, and Sacramento and Las Vegas. Flights are currently between San Diego International Airport (SAN) And Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) operate twice daily. According to aviation data and analytics provider Cirium, frequencies will increase to three flights per day on selected days from January 6, 2025.

The data shows that three frequencies occur on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, while two frequencies occur on the remaining days of the week. The regional airline SkyWest Airlines operates the flights with it Embraer E175 under the Delta Connection brand.

The two busiest Delta routes to Los Angeles are from the East Coast, while the other top ten routes come from across the country.

The airline operates two different configurations of the E175 – a 70-passenger model and another 76-passenger model. Both are designed in a two-class arrangement. Delta offers 160 flights between San Diego and Las Vegas, offering a total of 11,728 seats in January.

From Raleigh-Durham and Las Vegas

From the end of February flights between Raleigh–Durham International Airport (RDU) And Orlando International Airport (MCO) will increase from three to four on select days. However, on March 9, four frequencies are scheduled on every day of the week except Saturdays. Delta will operate a mix of regional and scheduled aircraft on the route.

A total of 234 flights are planned between the two destinations in March. The Airbus A320 will handle a total of 172 flights – 86 in each direction, while the E175 will operate on the remaining 62 frequencies, serving 31 in each direction. The aircraft is operated by Republic Airways under the regional brand Delta Connection.

The A320s offer 157 seats in a two-class configuration, and Republic’s E175s have a seating layout identical to SkyWest’s 76-seat E175s. In total, Delta will offer 31,716 seats on the route during the month.


Also in March, the airline increased the frequencies of flights between the two airports Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and Las Vegas. On March 9, service will increase from two daily flights to three, offering a total of 420 seats on the route daily. The numbers mean SkyWest will deploy its 70-seat E175s between Sacramento and Sin City. The operation will offer a total of 12,600 seats on 180 flights in April.

New service between Detroit and San Jose

In addition to the frequency increases, Delta will launch a new seasonal summer route Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). From July 7th, the airline will offer daily flights to San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC)on the Boeing 737-900ER.

In a statement to Simple Flying over the weekend, a Delta spokesperson said the route would be connected “The Motor City with Silicon Valley” and provide “Seamless travel for technology innovators and automotive leaders alike.”

The westbound flight departs Detroit just before 8:00 p.m. and arrives in San Jose around 10:00 p.m., while the eastbound flight is a red eye and is scheduled to depart San Jose at 11:00 p.m. and arrive around 6:00 a.m :30 p.m. lands back in Detroit. The seasonal route is offered until November 30th.
